A World of Advantages with Canon’s Technology

Canon PowerShot digital camera highlights
DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-Timer.

DIGIC 4 Image Processor
Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, delivers evolved Face Detection Technology that keeps every face in every photo looking its very best. The technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

A Face Detection Self-Timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. For instance, to include the photographer’s face in a group shot, there’s no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod, specify Face Detection Self-Timer, and the camera will wait for the photographer’s face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection tracks moving subjects in a much larger range—allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing.

Intelligent Contrast Correction
DIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot A2100 IS can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures. 1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken. 2) The PowerShot A2100 IS can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback. 3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

Life doesn’t give you second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot A2100 IS features an ISO 1600 setting that reduces the effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility. ISO can be expanded to 3200 when you select ISO 3200 Special Scene mode.

Purchased this camera for its size, 6X optical zoom, Canon quality and AA battery power in that order. I have not been disappointed.

Great camera, once you learn some tricks
- Reviewd on: 12/14/2009 12:00:00 AM By: From Cedar Ridge
I bought this camera because my Sony had defective electronics that weren't worth fixing. I'm very glad I bought this camera. It was reasonably priced and had standard AA Nickel metal hydrate batteries, instead of a special propriatery battery and memory card, like the Sony. I was very interested in the image stabilization feature, as I can no longer hand-hold a camera steady enough to prevent blurring. Although the manual settings are not complete, one can tweak some of the features to allow for full manual operation. I took a great photo of the full moon, with a tripod, and I was able to tweak the settings into an exceptionally clear photo.

Yes the camera is a little bulky, but having standard AA batteries is worth the inconvenience. Getting the 8GB HCSD card, with a reader, was a great deal. I like the feature of creating a folder for each month. I never directly download pictures via the camera because of the slow speed. I only download via the card reader and Windows Explorer, which is very fast. I like the 3" large screen.

A great camera that I highly recommend, provided you take the time to experiment and tweak the settings. Taking time exposure with a tripod and the shutter delay allows me to take great pictures, just like my old Canon AE-1.

Obviously, I would prefer a digital SLR, but for the cost, this camera was well worth it. I have learned that it is not worth it to invest heavily in an expensive camera since the technology curve is so steep that the camera becomes obsolete so quickly. An extended warranty is worthless, because most electronics will fail within the first year. After that, it is unlikely to have problems (except with a Sony) for quite a while. When the camera finally dies, it would not be worth fixing, but rather buy a new camera with the latest technology features.

Great Camera at a Great Price
- Reviewd on: 10/8/2009 12:00:00 AM By: John B. Glenn
For an entry level camera, 12MP and 6X zoom can't be beat. Add the 3 inch LCD and you've got one great camera. One easilly overlooked attribute is the fact that this cam takes 2 AA batteries and appears stingy with power usage, given the above features. We had an older model that chewed through 4 AAs like candy. Great camera... on the higher end of entry-level but worth the price.
