  • 3.5" XtraFine LCD.
  • Built-in wireless capability for easy photo sharing.
  • 2 GB internal memory.
  • Dual-use design offers easy photo viewing features.
  • 3x optical zoom.

Sony is advancing wireless digital photo sharing with today’s introduction of the 6-megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-G1 digital camera.

The Sony DSC-G1 model is Sony’s first digital camera with the ability to send photos wirelessly to other Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)-enabled devices, such as another camera or a PC.

One-Touch Wireless Photo Sharing and Archiving

The Sony DSC-G1 model features a 3.5-inch LCD screen with resolution of 921,000 pixels. That’s four times higher than the average compact digital camera and all previous Sony Cyber-shot models. The new camera’s slide show with music function makes sharing photos directly on the camera even more enjoyable.”

The new models’ camera-to-camera wireless capability makes it possible to send your friends a photo at the push of a button. It’s also possible for up to four camera users to send each other photos in real time. With a DLNA-compatible PC, storing and sharing photos becomes simplified through wireless image transfer from the camera to the PC.

Mega Storage Capacity and Sophisticated Image Management

The Sony DSC-G1 unit is the ideal vacation camera with 2GB of internal memory, saving you from having to manage extra media cards. It becomes a virtual photo album in your pocket as it can store up to 7,500 VGA-quality photos or 600 6-megapixel pictures. If additional storage is needed, the camera's capacity can be expanded with an optional Memory Stick Duo ™ media card or Memory Stick PRO Duo ™ card, now available in capacities up to eight gigabytes.

In addition to storage capacity, it incorporates an auto image management system with sophisticated search functions. You can organize your photos by events, such as vacations or birthdays, and retrieve them later by keywords or labels. It’s also possible to select an image and search for other photos with the same face, same color, or a similar composition.

Armed with features for optimal shooting and sharing, the new model also integrates built-in technologies to minimize image blur, including Super Steady Shot® optical image stabilization. It also has high light sensitivity, up to ISO 1000, to facilitate shooting at higher shutter speeds, as well as low-light conditions for more natural exposures or for settings where flash is not permitted.

This new Cyber-shot model also features a distinctive design. Its Carl Zeiss® 3x optical zoom lens is wrapped in an elegant metal body. You slide the lens cover across, instead of down as with previous models, and you’re ready to shoot in less than a second.

Sony didn't cut any corners with this camera
- Reviewd on: 2008-08-19 By: Jordan Klitzke
I bought a Sony a300 dSLR a few months ago, but decided it wasn't logical to carry around a $1000 camera to parties, so I went searching for a good point and shoot that took quality pictures for around $200. I stumbled onto this camera at a National Camera Exchange tent sale and immediately fell in love with it.
Pros:
- 9-point AF is great for a point and shoot
- 3.5" screen is huge and crystal clear: have to see it to believe
- 6 MP is more than enough for 99% of my shots and it doesn't take up so much space on my computer. It also does better in low light conditions because the pixels aren't so packed on the sensor.
- 2 GB internal memory is awesome, and you don't have to buy expensive Sony memory sticks
- Can store and listen to music with an 8 mm headphone jack
- Nice charging dock
- Beautiful menu displays
- Toggle switch is the best way to flip through menus
- Lens is hidden when closed so it isn't easily scratched

Cons:
- Buttons are a little tough to learn
- Little big for most small camera cases

Would recommend it for anyone. Just a fun camera to own.

Great camera with only a few cons, and a ton of pros!

Had this camera for 1 month, LOVE IT!

Pros:

- HUGE SCREEN!! Talk about being the center of attention when you whip this camera out. Definitely want to get some sort of a protective slip for it.

- Great picture quality. What do you expect from SONY? Only the best.

- Internal Memory. 2GB - memory stick? No neccessary with this. Internal hard drive rocks.

- Sleek design. Doesn't look cheap, luxurious feel.

- Video recording. Again...just like the pictures, it rocks.

CONS

- Weight. A tad bit on the heavy side, but the HUGE screen makes you forget about it quickly!

- Close/Open slide. Not neccessarily a con, but it just takes a little getting used to.

- Size. Not the biggest of cameras but definitely not the slimmist. Again, not a huge downside considering the huge screen but short time you get used to it!

For more info, I would suggest going to [...] and seeing the video on this product! You won't be dissapointed with the camera

Great camera!

I've used Amazon to order various items before and was always satisfied with the result...quality at low prices.
I ordered a Sony Dsc G1 on Sunday June 24th and it arrived Thursday, June 28th.
I've taken about 50 photos under critical conditions, low light and using the automatic features of the camera.
I'm amazed at how well it performs. Big LCD screen, the camera is a nice size for my big hands, just a little bigger then the regular Cybershots. The resolution in the screen is excellent.
I was considering the DSC T-100 but it got such bad ratings that I went with this camera....sure glad I did!
When I figure out some of the more technical features I'll post a more detailed review.
